Looking After You
There is a LOT going on in the world right now and running a business is tough for so many with so much uncertainty and variables that are completely outside of your control. This means that looking after yourself and your own well being is more important than ever.
Boundaries
Look at the boundaries you have in place around your business. Think email, social media - are you always on and always available? Try to step back outside of your core working hours will help you to switch off. I know that when you run your own business you want to be there when people have questions, but no one expects John Lewis to reply at 2am do they?! So why should you?
Sleep
Having a good night's sleep can make a huge difference to how you feel when you need to face a difficult day. It's a well known fact that scrolling on your phone in bed and the blue light from this disrupts sleep patterns, so turn off your phone earlier in the evening, leave it downstairs if you can (buy an alarm clock instead!) and try reading a book for 15 minutes when you go to bed instead. And if you can't leave it downstairs - then set up do not disturb/sleep mode for overnight so that apps can’t be used and only a select few can ever call you.
Movement
Get away from your desk every day. You don't need to suddenly start marathon training but take a break and go for a walk, have a stretch and just don't look at a computer for 30 minutes or so. Being outside and taking note of the things we can see and the sounds we can hear is calming for the nervous system and can help with resetting your day, even if it feels like the sky is currently more grey than blue.
Hydration
Drink the water - we all know it is good for us, but being hydrating helps our brains to function! Plus the added bonus of the more water you drink, the more you will need to pee and the more you will have to get up and away from your desk… a win, win if you like!!!
Talk to Someone
If you’re struggling in your business then talk to someone - you aren't the only one and knowing that others are having a quiet week etc won't make the sales come in but will definitely make you feel less alone - community over competition every single time.
