Dreamer or doer?
Are you a dreamer or are you a doer? By this I mean do you sit there and think one day I will do a, b, and c in my business and that would be fantastic or do you still there and think I want to do a, b and c in my business and so to get there I need to do x, y and z. It's that small tweak in thinking that turns dreams into plans.
So how do you turn those dreams into actions and become a “doer” rather than a dreamer?
My first step would be to tell you to focus - pick one dream that you want to work on and make happen. Once you know this you can then work out the key stages that make this up this gives you your stage goals / targets and from this you can then work out the steps for each of these stages.
For Example:
You might want to run 10k... if you've never run before your stages would be:
Buy running trainers and a decent sports bra
C25K app
5k to 10k training plan
Run 10k
And then from here:
Buy running trainers and a decent sports bra
Plan a day to go shopping and get the gear
C25K app
Diarise the 3 runs a week so that they happen and find a friend who will come with you
Find a 5k event to do at the end of the 10 week plan (ie Parkrun)
5k to 10k training plan
Download a 5k to 10k plan
Diarise the runs and other training you need to do to make sure they happen
Book a 10k event for the end of the programme
Run 10k
And you've gone from a thought of I'd like to run 10k to having a plan on how it's going to work and setting aside the time to make it happen. I've purposely not picked a business goal or target for this example because you need to work out what your dream is and what that looks and feels like for you, only then will you commit to it (whereas the path from non-runner to 10k is a relatively well established one).
And remember…
You will have set backs along the way, so be kind to yourself and know that sometimes some stages will take longer than expected but you will get there. And most importantly - it is OK to dream, you don't have to turn every dream into a reality!
